ENCSD Provides specialized instruction for deaf,
hard of hearing, and deaf-blind students
ENCSD provides quality educational services to students ages 5-21 from the 53 eastern most counties in North Carolina. ENCSD is currently serving 100 plus students from 37 counties. Ninety percent (90%) of our students are residential (Sunday evening through Friday afternoon).
Services in audiology, behavior and counseling, child psychiatry, educational assessment, independent living skills, library science, literacy, medical care, occupational and physical therapy, orientation and
mobility, school psychology, sensory integration, speech and language therapy, social work, and
therapeutic horseback riding are provided to support student academic progress in the academic and residential programs.
ENCSD follows a 180 day school calendar augmented by summer programs.
ENCSD is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Daily or weekly transportation is provided by the school to and from
their home county. Weekly transportation is always provided by
school each Sunday and Friday.
Support services are provided by the staff 24 hours per day. There is
a full-time nursing staff on site at all times along with access to a
pediatrician. Mental Health professionals such as psychologists,
guidance and clinical counselors, and social workers are also on staff
and accessible 24 hours per day.
Residential Life is a very important
part of the student’s academic and
independent training at NCSD. The
skills they learn in the residential
program will be with them all of
their lives.
