Community Involvement at ENCSD

Students at the ENCSD are more than visitors to the community. They are a part of the local community.

Community involvement opportunities include unique activities that may be a single lifetime event for our students. Many more students are in the community because they participate in educational opportunities found in the community on a daily basis. Occupational Course of Study (OCS) students earn required hours of work training and employment at approximately 21 different sites and/ or positions in the community. This is on a weekly and daily basis.

Students also learn valuable concepts by participating with community civic organizations that support those with needs in the community.
They may bag peanuts for the Sertoma Club or fold bags for Relay for Life. The Career Technical Education classes have built drop box houses for Habitat for Humanity to collect aluminum cans. Students have helped collect aluminum cans to drop in the little houses they build

Many agencies in the community such as Vocational Rehabilitation, Diversified Opportunities and Wilson Regional Resource Center are involved as team partners in the ongoing educational process of students here at ENCSD.

ENCSD reaches out to the extended community by offering a week long Career Technical Summer Institute to public school Hearing Impaired students.

Students from Barton College are involved with our school in many ways. They tutor students with subjects they are having difficulty in. Some of the students do their student teaching here also.

We have a goal here at ENCSD of 100% positive post-graduate transitional placement into the community for all of our students. We greatly appreciate and utilize the support from the community partners to achieve this goal at the highest rate of success possible. Here at ENCSD, we believe in the traditional thought that if you give a person a fish they eat for a day. If you teach that person to fish, they eat for life. However, that is only true if that person has a place to fish. The community provides a place for our students to fish and find success in life.
